We had a long layover in Brussels on our way back, so we left the airport for a while and explored a little bit of the city! It definitely made me want to go back to Belgium some day. Not only was the chocolate, waffles, and food delicious, but there was so much to see and do, and I only got to see a little bit of it at night. But, I’m super glad we got the chance to see even what little we did!
My favorite part of Brussels was the light show we stumbled upon in The Grand Place on our way back to the train station (we saw the last 5 minutes or so). They blasted popular pop songs and had a choreographed light show! It was hilarious to see the juxtaposition of old and new, and also really cool, and gave us a great boost of energy to continue through the freezing rain to the train.

Warning: these are very basic, tourist-y photos… but in the effort to document our entire trip, you get these lame photos, too!

We left the train station with a general idea of where the main square was, but somehow we stumbled upon this awesome cathedral! We had no clue what it was, and didn’t get close enough to see the sign. So we just admired it for a bit then moved on. I late found out it is the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula.

Because we had to

I thought the Christmas decorations really added a nice touch to this odd piece.

1 of 2 (but I wish 1 of 1 billion)

I had to laugh at the “decor” on the train back to the airport because I couldn’t quite tell if the designer was going for straight or diagonal lines…

These were delicious, but the chocolate was EVEN BETTER.
And there you have it, the last post of our Spain trip! Thanks to all the old and new readers! I’ll be playing a bit of catch up with some recent photo shoots, but stay tuned for some future travel diaries as well!
